boy’s turn

When I was a mom of just two boys, I read an article in the Reader’s Digest titled, “Surrounded by Brothers”.  It touched me deeply, so much so that I tore it out and pasted it in my journal.  Little did I know that God would give us 2 more little boys!  Here are a few quotes from that article, which was written by James Schembari:

“They go to bed, one in the top bunk, and
the other in the bottom.  By morning they
are in one bed, curled up together
like puppies in a box.”

“I don’t know what kind of relationship they will
have when they grow up.  I want them to always
have each other.  So I imagine them going to the
same college, marrying sisters and living on the
same block.”

“I sometimes things that the greatest thing I have ever done
is to help create these brothers.”

“I am surrounded by brothers.  It is better
than I ever imagined.”

Earlier today, I gave the boys each a “teddy bear” buzz cut.
I usually do it myself but last time they needed cuts I took them
to a hair place in the mall.  It cost 50 dollars
for 3 little boy buzz cuts!  (I won’t be doing that
again any time soon!)  Today I got out the clippers and went outside
to clean, oil, and adjust them (the clippers are what frustrated me last time.)  Then I gave each of the boys
their hair cut – right out on the yard in the sun.  I
don’t have any hair to sweep up afterword – I left it
all in the grass!  I had fun but I can’t say that the
boys enjoyed it much.

I think I earned myself a good 50 dollars, don’t you?

  1. You sure did a good job!  And leaving the hair in the grass is great because the birds right now will use it to build nests ~ they love stuff like that ~

  2. Yes, you certainly earned yourself $50! They look great! I’m sure you felt awful about cutting poor Jacob. That poem is so sweet. It’s great that your boys really do get to live and play with their best friends.

  3. Nice hair cuts. My wonderful hubby cuts the 5 boys hair, saves a lot of money. I had to laugh when I read ” By morning theyare in one bed, curled up together like puppies in a box.” that is how I find my 3 youngest boys every morning

  4. Awww…  I love the post today!!!!!!!!!!!  And the haircuts look great…  I cut Joe and Joeys hair (hubby and son) and it makes me feel better in the end to know that we saved that money!!!!!  Joey definately doesn’t like getting his hair cut though… he fights me over it every time!! Hope you have a most wonderful week! **hugs** ❤ Jami

  5. When the weather is nice I always cut my boys’ hair outside.  Less mess, they run around afterwards to get some of the hair clippings off and I figure some little momma and daddy bird can use my children’s soft hair to line their nest.  They all look dashing with their fancy hair by the way.

  6. I can’t wait to rub my hands on their fuzzy heads!  I remember doing that to your brothers all the time after your mom gave them their buzz cuts.  It is always a good feeling.  I’m sure you enjoy doing it also.
RYC:  I can’t wait to come – I just don’t want all the work involved in getting there.    I think we will be leaving Monday morning – probably around 9-10 o’clock.  So we should be at your house by 1 or 2 oclock, next Monday.

  7. Cute! And good job on the buzz jobs.  I just did my younger two.  And I know what you mean about battling with the clippers.  ugh  I love my old Wahl clippers, but there about 20 years old and one of the combs is broken.  I bought a new one (Remington?) and I hate them.  But man have I saved on the haircuts over the years.  I do my oldest son and hubby, too.

  8. My husband and I decided recently that we will not be having any more kids.  (there are many reasons).
But then I read your post.
    ah.  my heart hurts.
But how blessed those boys are!!!  The sweet, close friendship of same sex siblings is one that I cherish dearly.  My sisters are my dearest friends.  History and blood bind us.

  9. I am extremely impressed with your boys’ cuts!  I couldn’t do it.  About 8 years ago, Tom begged me to do his and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty and he hasn’t let me touch a hair on his head ever since!
    You’ve definitely earned $50-
