Update from Naples

I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be here.  We are in our room at the resort right now, a gorgeous room with a balcony.  We’ve all just come in from a day at the beach.  The water is so clear and calm, the kids just play all day long while Rich and I read, walk, or swim with the kids.  The weather has been so beautiful.

I finished my book:  Anne’s House of Dreams and it was better than I remembered.  I’ve probably read it 10 or more times but it’s been a while. . . .I read most of it today with the sound of the ocean as the perfect background noice.  Here is a quote for you about friendship:

“‘I am your friend and you are mine, for always,” Anne said.  ‘Such a friend as I never had before.  I have had many dear and beloved friends–but there is a something in you, Leslie, that I never found in anyone else.  You have more to offer me in that rich nature of yours, and I have more to give you than I had in my careless girlhood.  We are both women—and friends forever.’  They clasped hands and smiled at each other through the tears that filled the gray eyes and the blue.”

I love my friends and think of friendship as a wonderful gift from God.

Well, Rich and I are taking the kids out to dinner tonight.  We’ve all had a light lunch so we would be good and hungry.  We are going to a seafood place.

Love from Naples!

PS  I typed this on Rich’s laptop.  I couldn’t resist asking him if I could spend some time checking up on things here in xanga-land!  Also, we decided not to go to Disney.  I took the kids to the zoo yesterday and they did not like walking around in the heat.

  1. It’s good to hear from you, I thought we wouldn’t be hearing from you for at least a week.  Glad you’re enjoying your vacation.  Take it easy and love on that family of yours.

  2. Ooooooo…Sounds wonderful!  I loved the quote!  Nothing better than kindred spirits I always say!
The roses are absolutely beautiful!  And….I don’t use the word beautiful lightly…  : )

  3. I’m so glad you’re having a wonderful time!  I have been thinking of you often and hoping that you all are enjoying your vacation.  The beach and a book sounds perfect!  I too have been revisiting some L.M. Montgomery stories.  Excellent stuff- I love them every time!

  4. I’m so glad “we” are having beautiful weather for you.  I thought of you as we made our way north from Miami yesterday!   Wave to us when you drop in at Disney World!
I pray your vacation is filled with moments to remember. -Alesha

  5. The “Anne” series is my absolute favorite set of books.  Truly.  I have been through them all more times than I could count, and when I had my first child and it turned out to be a girl, I went right out and bought a new boxed set of them.  For her, of course.
Your vacation sounds wonderful so far.  Enjoy every minute!

  6. ryc:  the heat can be rough when you’re not used to it.  Trust me, your time (and money) is MUCH better spent there at the beach.  IMHO, a day at Disney is a day or hurrying, scurrying and waiting!  Not what you want your vacation memories to be made of.
And I have “baby” brothers, too, Michael and Phillip.  They were born when I was 13 and then 15, respectively.  They will be 27 and 25 in the next 2 months.  (If you can add in your head, you know how old I am now!!!)  The oldest is married and just bought his first house.  The second is still single and living at home – and TRYING to wait patiently for the one God has for him.  He asked my hubby, “Is it too much to ask for a nice girl who drives a truck?”  LOL!  He’s very southern!
    Enjoy your time there. -Alesha

  7. I am so happy to hear that you are having such a wonderful time with your family! You’re like me, I can’t be away from my friends here on Xanga, for too long! We are bringing my husband’s laptop on the cruise, so I will probably pop on at least once. 🙂 Enjoy your dinner tonight. Seafood sounds yummy. No worries about the letter. You are so sweet to even think and take the time to write me one. I hope that we can write to each other often. You are truly a blessing. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip. When do you return? Love, Tara

  8. It sounds as though you are having an amazing time- how wonderful!  I’m glad the weather is cooperating.  You must be making some great memories.  Hope the rest of the trip goes just as well and that you have a safe, protected trip back home.
    God bless~Laurel

  9. What fun!  Sounds like you are having an awesome time!  Skipping Disney might be the best thing you ever did!  It is so crowded and loud and so much going on, not relaxing for the adults at all (fun for the kids but sounds like they are already having plenty of fun!).  Enjoy the rest of your trip!!

  10. RYC: That’s amazing that you discovered LM Montgomery in 5th grade — so did I!! We had just moved to California, were in an apartment while our house was being built, and I was bored…my brother had given my sister a 3-book set of the first three Anne books, and she had never even touched them, so I asked to borrow one.  I was hooked and finished all three in about 4 days!

  11. It does sound wonderful, I picture you smiling and laughing often!  I have never read that book but the quote was so nice!
I am sure you are taking pictures and it will be fun to see what you are seeing right now when you return home!

  12. Ah yes, Anne! How I love Anne. That is so funny that you’re reading that book. I just watched Anne of Avonlea last week because I was in the Library and it brought back so many memories and I decided it would be a fun time to watch it. There is no one quite like Anne! Glad you’re having a fun time on the beach!

  13. I saw you posted on another site about loving the book Hannah Fowler by Janice Holt Giles……me too :o)  I had a friend who worked at the library and one day she was working with the books that had been donated to the Friends of the Library book sale.  She called me and said someone had donated all of the books by Janice Holt Giles and they were mine if I wanted them!  So I got them all for 25 cents each and now I have all of her books right here in my very own bookcase :o)  Hannah Fowler is probaby my favorite……..but I like them ALL alot.  She writes how I feel……or something like that!
