family happenings and a recipe

Baby woke up yesterday morning crying in pain and cried most of morning.  I called the doctor and they couldn’t get him in until 5:30 in the evening so it was a loooong day for my poor little guy.  It turned out to be a ruptured ear drum from an ear infection.  This hasn’t happened before in my family and we felt so bad.  His ear will be fine, thankfully, and already this morning he’s acting much better.  He’s been making me smile because he knows what cupboard has the bulk-case of fruit snacks in it and he opens it up, leans inside and says “Wow!  Wow!”  “Wow!  Wow!”   He knows they are in there, but it’s always such a reaction that you’d think he just discovered them.

While I was at Target last night, waiting for the prescription, I bought Daughter a “shabby chic” bed in a bag.   It’s white and pale pink: a comforter, bedskirt, and pillow shams.  I had to buy the sheets separately.   I realized yesterday that she was still using the bedding that Husband and I bought over 10 years ago for our bed.  We had fun making her bed this morning with the new sheets.  I bought her an oval braided rug that matches the bedding, too.  It’s such fun to rearrange her little things and make her room pretty.  I love love love having a daughter.

I had to laugh last night when we were coming home from Target.  I had bought the kids each a happy meal and they were silently eating when all of a sudden my son said excitedly, “MOM!  I just ate a french fry that tasted JUST LIKE a POTATO!” (fancy that!)

The Chai Tea experience

My friend emailed me a recipe for chai tea mix so I gathered all the supplies to take to my parent’s house with me last weekend so that Mom and I could have fun making it together.

  1. Oh, yes, aren’t girls so much fun!  I’m thankful for the one I have also.  I enjoyed fixing her room up a few years ago with the pink and purple flower stuff, even painted a few big flowers on her one wall.
Thanks for the recipe.  I have wondered what Chai tea is, might have to try some.  Be blessed~

  2. The bedroom looks beautiful~
We made chai tea mix a few weeks ago, too.  Did yours dissolve completely?  Our left a lot of icky stuff in the bottom of the cup.  I’m wondering if ds 15 didn’t process it long enough or if that always happens?

  3. In one pic, Grace’s bedroom wall looks to be a beautiful shade of coral ~ in another, it looks hot pink ~ the lighting probably makes a difference.  Which color is it?  I just love that coral shade.  She must just love the new look ~ so pretty.

  4. Shanda,
Target’s Shabby Chic bedding is so pretty.  I love the delicate flower patterns.
Too cute about the potato comment!
    Have a blessed day!

  5. Your poor little guy!  The last time my eardrums ruptured I was 19 years old, so I remember it vividly unfortunately.  The worst part was BEFORE they ruptured believe it or not. I am sure he feels better now that it is healing, but I just wanted to let you know that I sympathize with your little guy.  Give him an extra squeeze from someone that has BTDT.  šŸ™‚

  6. You found the instant tea!  I recognize those tea cups   Poor Caleb – Marissa never complains that her ears hurt or anything but she does get really stuffy for a few days.  I have to take her to the Dr. and each time she ends up on antibiotics for an ear infection.

  7. Blogring Browsing…I really enjoyed your stories about your kids.  My girls will be ready for twin beds soon and I am so looking forward to finding some nice girly bedding!  BTW, I have that same chai tea recipe and we love it (especially since Trader Joe’s stopped selling our favorite kind).

  8. Delightful post! I loved everyting about it, the photos, the joy of having a daughter, the french fried Potato (LOL), the tea cups and even the doctor visit. A full rich life, and the blessing is that you know it and share it with others. You are such a witness for the love of the Lord in your life

  9. Great post!!  Love the “girlie” room — my daughter hasn’t lived at home in 10 years and I still keep the room that was hers all in pink.  She never had an ear infection but my two boys had them all the time during the winter season.  One time the doctor let me look through his scope and I couldn’t believe how red the ear was — and I mean red!!  I hope I get a french fry that tastes like a potato sometime instead of like dried out cardboard!!  Thanks for sharing!!

  10. Passing by…your little one sounds so sweet…sorry about his little ear drum…pray it heals very soon.
I was reading up on the Chai tea mix sounds very good, but what interested me the most was your prettyteacups & saucers, i’m a collector and so find them very pretty!

  11. I know you collect Fiesta.  I have a couple of dessert plates that I picked up at Goodwill a few months ago if you are interested.   I have a teal, light pink and light blue one.  I’ve been using them, but we have so many dessert plates that my cupboard is just too full.  I would be glad to send them to you if you want them.  Just let me know.

  12. poor lil C….how is he do’n today? pict of girl are sweet….yes having a girl is fun! šŸ™‚
feels like a while since we chatted! ;0

  13. Oh, her bed is just adorable, I’ve been waiting for those to go on sale for my own bed!!Yes, a ruptured eardrum is no fun-I think I was around 15 when mine happened and it was horrible until it ruptured and then I felt so much better. It’s just all that pressure that builds up behind the eardrum that makes is unbearable.I’m going to have to try that tea mix, it sounds really tasty…I think I’ll have to pick up some pretty teacups, too. I have all coffee type cups, no dainty teacups.Loved your posts!

  14. Yes, having a DD is a wonderful thing and after 6 months I finally get to see mine again. Now she is my baby and she is 25 but she is still my little girl. I am so happy.  Thanks for the recipe. I love that type of tea.

  15. I’m sorry about little Caleb’s ear. It really does feel much better after the rupture because the pressure is gone and healing has begun.I love your photos of Grace!! Ethan and potatoes are French fries LOL. Too cute eh? Thank You for sharing that recipe.. I love chai tea!!I love the smell of it. It’s wonderful!Blessings,Angie

  16. Julie has had trouble with that in her kids, it is so painful, poor little guy!
Shabby chic is just the right way to describe her new bedding,  it is hard to iumagine who was more excited you or her!

  17. Poor little Caleb, I am happy to hear tha the is doing better. I think Grace’s new bedding is adorable! My girls are needing new bedding, I am going to have to go take a look at Target. Thanks for sharing the tea recipe. Love, Tara

  18. Great photo of your hubby and boys!  I love tinkering with my kids’ rooms as well.  Sometimes I think Thomas enjoys goodies for his room more than the girls do!
    Have a great day~ Laurel

  19. i hope that your little boy feels better. i have a two year old and he has been pretty healthy so i can’t imagine what that is like. i love the bedding for your little girl. i can’t wait until i can do that for my daughter. i have never had that tea before so i am going to go out on a limb and try it (just because it is something new).
