I’m sure you all have memories of a special birthday, a birthday that will never be forgotten.  Everything was perfect and you were so so happy.

That’s the way I want my son’s birthday to be today.  Perfect and memorable.  It is his 9th birthday and I’m trying to do everything I can to make it a special day.

We got him with silly string as soon as he came downstairs for breakfast.  (the kids have never seen it before so it was very funny)

We aren’t having school.

We went on a trip to the grocery store this morning where we filled the cart with chips, dip, fruit snacks, fruit punch, a balloon, the fixings for ice cream sundaes. . . .all foods that I would normally flat out refuse to buy!  I even let him get his own bottle of Mountain Dew!

My Friend K called this morning, wondering if she could drop by with a gift.  Her children are the same age as mine so we had a party!  We ate lunch, made ice cream sundaes, and then we took this picture:

Our guests have gone home now.  Later on when Daddy gets home we will have a special dinner (chicken and mashed potatoes) and birthday cake.

Happy Birthday!

  6. Happy Birthday Ethan!!  Your mom sure loves you a lot to make this a VERY special day for you!!
P.S. I have a daughter who will be turning 9 in a few weeks.  9 is a truly precious age!

  7. Happy Birthday Ethan!! I remember when you lived here in PGH. I cant believe how old he is now! It looks like you had a wonderful day and made it very very special for him! Loved all the pics. I cant wait for jyllie’s 1st Birthday!

  8. It sounds like Ethan had a great day! I remember when my kids were little, on their birthdays I used to tie a string on their bedroom doorknob which they had to follow all over. I would unwind it and tie small gifts here and there and as they wound up the string, it would lead them all over the house to little presents. They always loved that so much! Even when they were teens they would ask if I was going to do it on their birthdays! You are giving your kids a wealth of special memories, which will strengthen the bond of family. Now my kids are grown and far from me, and we are hardly ever able to be all together, but still, they sometimes talk about those special days we spent together and things we did when they were growing up. It built something good into them emotionally. They have never doubted that they were cherished. Your children won’t doubt it either! Blessings, special mommy!

  9. I sat here picking out your kids on the steps! I love your “brood” and am so so happy you are blogging I see much more of you and your life now!
How wired was he after the Mountain Dew?

  10. Happy b-day E! – Aunt Colleen is awful about getting out cards.  I even miss giving them to my in-laws and they are right next door.
I’m glad to see everyone had so much fun…I wish we were close enough to drop by to help celebrate.
