My Baby

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or
gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast, time is short , the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask “How are you” do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in bed
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

Ever told a child, “we’ll do it tomorrow”,
and in haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die
’cause you never had time to call and say “hi”?

When you run so fast to get somewhere
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
it is an unopened gift. . .thrown away. . .

Life is not a race.  Do take it slower.
Hear the music, before the song is over.

  1. Great poem! Now that my kids are grown, I am so glad I took the time to make good memories! My heart took a lot of pictures, and I can still enjoy those moments today. How sad to see your children grown and not be able to look back over the years and see times of joy and laughter. They are young for such a short time, even though when you are going through those years sometimes you feel overwhelmed and like it will never end. Being a mommy is a high calling! I think it is the most important thing I have ever done.

  2. I love this poem! Now, after almost 2 years of being a mother, I have learned many great lessons and received so much wonderful wisdom from women who have been mothers for many years, and they have taught me to truly slow down and to enjoy life with my family richly; as it happens, moment by moment. I used to rush, rush, rush. Now I am finally at the point in my life to be able to live, (really live!) instead of just exist. Love that picture! πŸ™‚
