Thumb cookies (from Tasha Tudor’s cookbook, don’t think about frozen critters as you read this)
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 (8 oz) jar raspberry jam
Preheat oven to 350. Line 2 cookie sheets w/parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients except the raspberry jam, in the order given. Roll the dough into teaspoon-sized balls and make indentations with your thumb, fill indentations w/rasp. jam.
Bake for 10-15 minutes until delicately brown. Cool.
Pineapple Cookies (this is from an old community cookbooks that my G.Grandma gave me years ago.)
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 c. crushed pineapple w/juice
1/2 c. nuts
3 1/2 flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Mix shortening, sugar and egg. Stir in pineapple. Stir together flour, soda, salt and nutmeg and add to bowl; stir. Mix in nuts (I never add nuts) Chill at least 1 hour. Drop onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.

I do enjoy Tasha Tudor. I don’t think I’d like to visit her basement though. Yikes!
Your party sounds lovely. What will you be serving for dinner?
Blessings, Gina
Coming to your site is like going to a modern day Tasha Tudor’s home!
Nope! Didn’t know about the wearing red thing. I guess it wouldn’t matter much here as no one else knows about it, either! I am also out of the loop when it comes to knowing who Tasha Tudor is. I guess I have lived in another country a long time, huh? I will have to do a Google search on her. Poor little frozen critters! LOL! Enjoy you lady party!
mmmm….thanks for the recipes, I had to print them out.
Yikes….I once had a bobcat in my freezer for awhile, but never considered taking it out and posing it…. =O
Hello……I’ve never heard of Tasha Tudor, but I can probably bet my daughter has. Her apartment is full of books. She says she has to stack them on the floor now! I love the pictures. You are very talented. A valentines party. Sounds like a lot of fun. Well, have a great day and keep warm!! 🙂
Tasha Tudor and James Herriot ~ both great authors ~ I didn’t know that fact about Tasha either ~ kiind of gruesome, isn’t it? She is a classic.
I can’t wait for tomorrow. I still have to write out my cards, but my “gifts” are done. The comment from Tasha Tudor is disturbing. EWWW! I once disected a raccoon my science teacher had put on ice. I won’t go into more detail…
Thos cookies look so yummy!!!! :)A Valentine partry sound so fun!!!! 🙂 I hope it goes well! That quote…wow! Interesting…I guess…maybe a bit more yucky though than interesting!???
your cookies look so pretty on the fiesta ware plate! I got my mosaic fiesta ware pieces in the mail this week. I ordered them off Ebay. I will post pictures of my table when I am done. Your party sounds lovely!
I have read that Tasha Tudor book, My grandmother LOVED Tasha Tudor and passed her books on to me. Your valentines party sounds like so much fun, maybe that could be a new tradition for me once I declutter my house. I was thinking about a Tea party but a Valentines one sounds even better. Have a wonderful weekend. Love, Michelle
Pineapple cookies – never heard of them before – but it’s sounds so very good.
I cannot wait til tomorrow!! It’s going to be so much fun. 🙂 I love the cookie picture, they look so good. Your house will look gorgeous in this snow we’re getting, I cannot wait to see it! See you tomorrow. Love ya!
The book sounds like interesting reading and the cookies smell lovely :o)Blessings,Angie
Woo Hoo, party for the chicas! I am so looking forward to the dinner and fellowship.
You were mentioned at fwren’s site, so I thought I’d stop by and visit. I love your photos! You made a simple plate of cookies look stunning – how do you figure out the perspective to do that? Special lenses? I’ve checked out Tasha Tudor from the library, just for the visual feast – her entire environment is gorgeous. I’d draw the line at using frozen critters to pose for me! Ugh! My boys would probably think that cool, though. Taxidermied animals are OK, and can be quite interesting, but not just plain ol’ frozen ones….
May the Lord bless your Valentine’s Day party!
Your party sounds like a lot of fun. I need to do something like that for my girlfriends. Thanks for stopping by. BTW~ I make cookies like those each Christmas and they are the first to go…Yumm-O!
Oh I just love Tasha Tudor!Your cookies look scrumptious! I tagged you on my most recent post…hope you have not done it before and might want to this time. Blessings!Susan
I love the recipes, hate the bit about dead rodents. EEEEEK! (i have an intense fear of them – frozen or thawed) LOL
I can’t wait to make these cookies! I figure any flavor of jam will do–have you tried others? Oh, and do you always use parchment paper for them?
Let’s just say, that Tasha Tudor info is, um, interesting.. borderline creepy! 🙂 The thumb cookies look delicious: I must try them!
