News and Notes

We just took this picture about a half hour ago with my self-timer.  I wish Rich was in it!  Here I am with my 5 :  Jacob (9), Caleb (1), Grace (7), David (4), and Ethan (8).

Caleb stuck a crayon through the wood stove insert and now my house is being scented with the smell of crayon wax.  What to do?

I just looked out the window a few minutes ago and saw a fantastic sight: about 7 cardinals, some fat bluejays and 2 fat robins.  The cardinals are my favorite.  They were sitting in the pine trees behind the feeder.  Their bright red bodies against the dark green was gorgeous.  I wish I could take some close ups but my camera is not adequate.

Here is one picture that I took.  I had to take it through the shut window of my bathroom:

Tomorrow I have cantata practice at church from 9-12 and I am taking Jacob, Ethan, and Grace with me because they are part of the children’s choir.  It’s always fun to go to church on a Saturday morning!  Rich will be here working on my lengthy to do list.  (I hope)

On Sunday Rich’s family is coming to our house for the first time (we just moved here in July).  We will celebrate Christmas together.

Happy Friday!

  1. I get some kinda points for being the first to comment right? LOL!
Cardinals are beautiful, I went on strike buying bird seed because of chipmunks eating it all, not sure what to do about that. But when I did stock it I loved the cardinals
I think David looks like Uncle David in this picture. This opinion based only on photographs.
Look at Gee all surrounded by boys!

  2. Beautiful children!  And I love the cardinals.  One of my favorite things is to see them in the evergreens while it is snowing ~ just wonderfully Christmasy!  🙂

  3. Love the family picture. It’s so cute. Sounds like you are very busy getting everything ready for family and church activities. I’ll see you tomorrow. It will depend on how my children behave as to how long I stay. 🙂 And yes, you can definitely hold my chunky monkey tomorrow.

  4. I tried taking a picture of our cardinals this morning too!  But I couldn’t get a picture focused quick enough.  The cardinals kept going from the branches of our apple tree to the bird feeder in front of another window.  Before I could change rooms it would fly back to the tree.  I finally just gave up and watched it instead.
I wish I could be singing in our choir – I miss it.  But since I will be working Christmas Eve and won’t be able to sing in the cantata, I didn’t join in this year.  Have fun – sing, and make merry!
    Love You! – Col

  5. I found you through Barefoot_Mama. What a wonderful site you have. The picture of the cardinals thrills me. I, too, have five children and I’m probably older than your parents (according to their picture). I’ve read some of your past posts and will come back for more. I’d love to boost your site but haven’t figured out how to do that.

  6. Am I the only one to leave a crayon suggestion?  Turn off the stove, get it as cold as you can, maybe even rub an ice-pack over it.  It should scrape off.  Otherwise, you need to do the opposite: attempt to completely melt the crayon (it may be already done!) and catch the drippings.   — ebabe heloise.
I, too, love the new picture.  Thanks for putting it in your message to me this morning; brightened me right up!

  7. I LOVE the photo of you and the kids (precious), maybe you could photoshop Rich in (LOL) I laugh because I don’t even have a clue how to do that I just know some people that do. Oh you have the smell of melting crayons too? I do as well but mine are melting in the baseboard heat uuughhhhh of course I can’t reach them to stop the melting…

  8. I would suggest just sticking a piece of meat or somethin that has a pleasant aroma when heated to mask the crayon stench. Hey you asked!!! LOL.
What a great picture. I have been feeding the birds since I moved into the new apartment. I have not seen the birds you have but boy those squirrles can pack it away.
    love you sis!

  9. I could do Christmas year round…but I guess it just wouldn’t be as exciting!  Great new pic and colors for the season.  Oh, and you should do a few more self-timer photos…yours turned out great! (with Rich too!!)

  10. Beautiful family picture!  You’ll have to get one with Rich in it.  We had melted crayon on the woodstove a few weeks ago.  I must admit that I remember having a facination with melting crayons (usually in the sun) when I was a kid.  Thanks for the comment!  You’re such an encouragement to me.  I wish I could have you over for a cup of coffee someday!

  11. I love your new profile picture and your family picture. Maybe you can take another quick pic (I know it’s hard to get all the kids together and to smile at the same time) and get Rich in. Your family is very photogenic. The birds are beautiful. Have a wonderful Christmas celebration with your in-laws. Good luck with practice.

  12. Ohhhhhhhh, so sweeeeeet !! Darling little ones!  I like to look into the eyes of photos because so many times you can see their personality in all its glory right there staring back at you! Love the tree in the back!  The pic of the cardinal looks like it should be a Christmas card!
