"JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE"

The little cares that fretted me
I lost them yesterday
Among the fields, above the sea,
Among the winds at play,
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.

The foolish fears of what might happen,
I cast them all away,
Among the clover-scented grass,
Among the new-mown hay,
Among the husking of the corn,
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born–
Out in the fields with God.

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,

Daily walking close to Thee,
             Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;

I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;

Guide me gently, safely o’er
To thy Kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

  1. I really think that these pictures are the best I have seen from you!!! I love the blue, the tree, the fog, the water. Great message too!!!!! Great job Sis.

  2. This is one of the hymns that just makes me cry when I sing it. Does that ever happen to you? The very thought that God loves me THAT much, that my burdens, my worries, my tears, matter, really MATTER to him moves me in such a way that I can’t hold back my overflowing gratitude.  Thank you for sharing that song and reminding me how much I am loved by the one who created me, even if at times I can’t find that kind of love for myself.  What a blessing you are!! ~Karen

  3. I adore this song.  And one of my favorites, Patsy Cline sang it.  It’s just a really special song.  I love it how you intersperse the lyrics and the pictures…it has a great effect on a person’s emotions that way.  Also, thanks for the sweet message the other day.  And I’m sure my kids would love to be your kids’ friends.  ; )

  4. Beautiful song and beautiful pictures, but I really appreciated the poem!  I’ve been fretting about things I can’t control, and the words of the poem really spoke to me.  Thank you!

  5. I love that hymn, Purple!  It is never used enough in church, but that’s a different lament.  Thanks for quoting the powerful lyrics.

  6. Thank you so much for posting.  While contemplating even getting back on Xanga, I would get my subscription posts and your pictures and quotes would gently bring a smile back on my lips.  This was a far cry from the depression I had been experiencing since I had gotten back from Tucson.  We’re all doing “better”.  I talk to my sister, Rosanna more now than ever and she says it helps to talk.  Thanks again, especially for what you share here.  God bless you and your sweet family, Evalyne

  7. One of my favorite hymns.  Seeing how you paired the photos with it is beautiful.  What a great perspective.
    Kind of makes you wonder how big God’s smile is right now as He is thinking of you and loving  you for giving Him your time and this prayer.

  8. beautiful post. I looooove that first poem! My heart really felt the words…it is what I feel when I walk in the morning. I loved the pic of the pine tree with the water droplets…but my favorite was the one of you wrapped in a black blanket. who took it?

  9. Hi Shanda, I’m so glad you stopped by my site.My heart has been troubled and reading this poem about walking with the Lord is just what I will go do this morning. Nothing lifts my soul more then being outside, enjoying our Father’s world. How I enjoyed the photos you’ve posted over the last few weeks, your family is beautiful and brought a smile to my face. Do you happen to homeschool? I ask because we homeschooled our daughter for 7 years and enjoyed the same closeness I see in your pictures. (Brianna is now a freshman in college and I’m going through a season of mourning and searching for what God would have me do now).May God bless your day, Mary
