These are all pictures from our Boston trip on Friday.  We were there for about four hours; at the library and park while Rich attended a business meeting.  David never stopped trying to catch a pigeon.  The  children and I stood and watched two violinists play in the park.  Their sign said, “Help us eat tonight”, so we threw in a few dollars and *felt quite sorry for these poor young men who were obviously hungry*.   It was a beautiful-weather day, warm and sunny.  I was on edge/alert the entire time, trying to take care of my row of “ducklings”.

Make Way for the Ducklings was written about/for Boston so I always think about that book while there.  It was a treat to see the ducks for that reason.

Then, a peaceful journey back home. Babies sleeping, radio playing, soft rain falling, and my arms around the driver in front of me…..

  1. I’m so glad you mentioned the title “Make Way For Ducklings.” I knew that I knew the names Margaret and H.A. Rey, but I couldn’t remember the name of the book. Don’t you wish children always followed as closely as ducklings do? Glad you had a safe trip.

  2. I LOVE Robert McCloskey! He is my absolute favorite children’s author!  I think it’s the illustrations that get me. =)How fun to spend a day in Boston. I have always wanted to see that city. Someday. One thing I love about going into the city (Chicago for me)  ~ How much is going on all the time. Violinists playing in the park…that sort of thing. I love taking the kids in on the train, we always find lots and lots to do and our original plan usually goes out the window once we get down there!  I will actually be down there today, but with my husband, selling at a Farmer’s Market.Blessings to you on this Wednesday! =)

  3. Fun!  I like how you have little references to the book all through the post!  Did David catch one? (I can guess the answer to that) and IF he had caught one would you have let him bring it home? :)I do not like Sethers sitting on the next bench alone it makes me want to reach in a grab him! LOL!

  4. Love the last picture. So sweet!! πŸ™‚ And oh how I would love to live closer to Boston. Such a neat city filled with so much history. Blessings to you on this Wednesday. πŸ™‚

  5. what a nice day… I have never been to Boston. Your kids are so cute.. how I would love if soft rain would fall here… we haven’t had rain in a very long time… love ya too.. hope you also have a wonderful day

  6. Looks like a great time was had by all! And all your children seem so sweet, adventurous, and well behaved! I would love to visit Boston one day. It’s certainly on my bucket list! Great pictures, and I’m glad you and your family had a great day!

  7. Lovely post! We enjoyed “Make way for ducklings” and others by McCloskey. I thought what a handful you have going places, but when I see pictures of those sprawling legs I expect your older ones are help! My Grandmother was one of 10 and had a specific little one to take care of, they were close the rest of their life. Do you ever do that? My boys always helped the moms with little ones on field trips, they received their reward in being very well loved!Cute to see you holding Rich after a big day out. Love the picture of them all lined up, and of the three boys looking at ducks, and of course, reading in the library!!

  8. Looks like a fun trip, but to be honest, I would be a nervous wreck taking my kids to a big city like that.  You do a great job!  Love Davy trying to catch the pigeons, Grace’s sweet shirt with dots AND hearts, little Sarah standing in front of the books (when did she get so big??).

  9. @alaskahannah – Oh believe me, I was nervous enough…not quite a wreck, but still.  Especially with Rich at that “endless” meeting.    πŸ™‚  xoxo  I am not a city gal.  But I do things outside my comfort zone just to live life, and also appreciate the country even more!  LOL  Love you, Hannah b!

  10. I’ve never been to Boston. A couple years ago my husband went there for a business trip, but we felt our children were too young to take with us – so we stayed back home. Maybe one of these days I’ll get there. Looks lovely.

  11. hi shanda…….what a fun day in boston – good for you guys.  we vacationed in boston about 11 years ago.  geat city and absolutely loved all the history, but oh my, the crazy driving!!!  i said a prayer each time my husband got behind the wheel!

  12. I love the book “Make Way for Ducklings”.  Mom read it to us often.    Do all of your children enjoy reading?  I love to read, but haven’t gotten an avid reader in my bunch yet.
