On Thursday afternoon, Rich came home early and grilled us steaks for dinner.  As we ate, Grace confessed to me that her stomach had been hurting all day long, and she couldn’t finish her dinner.

Round about 8pm that night, Rich and I were both violently sick with the stomach bug.  The same stomach bug David had last week, which is going around at his school, and at Rich’s workplace.

Grace was sick, too.

So was Jacob.

So was Caleb.

All night long, we were all running to the bathroom.  I had not been so sick in a very long time, and being six months pregnant it was awful.

Yesterday Rich and I spent the whole day surviving…….Ethan was healthy so he was in charge of Seth when we could not get out of bed.

Rich was able to get up and out to the grocery store in the afternoon, to get us Gatorade, popsicles, and ginger ale.

I was so lonesome and sad for my Mom that even though I thought she was at work, I called home….when she answered, I cried.  God knew I needed her (she was home for a little while after an appointment and then she was going back to work later that day).  I’m so thankful for my Mom.  Just hearing her sympathetic voice made me feel better.

By the end of the day, my stomach was settling down.  I had to do some laundry because Caleb’s bedding and all sorts of towels were dirty and couldn’t sit and fester.  I did the laundry, and scrubbed the most-used bathroom.

We slept better last night.  Ethan is sick now, and on the couch.  Rich is happy and up and full of energy.  I am not.  I am exhausted and weak, so I will be laying low this weekend.  The other sickies have recovered enough to actually want scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast but I didn’t set foot in the kitchen.  Grace and Jacob are the chefs this morning.

Happy First Day of Spring!  What a wonderful thing to think about today!  God is good, wonderful, & amazing!

Back to the couch I go, to my family, and my little pink washcloth that I am crocheting.

  1. I hope you all feel better today. What would we do without our moms? I’m 51 and I still love to call her and talk. We’re going on a trip together soon, since it might be the last one she’ll be able to take…she’s 78!!! Have a great weekend … if you can.

  2. That is no fun when it hits MOM and DAD at the same time! Good thing you have trained your children well! Hope you get on the mend this weekend, REST, REST, REST!!! Oh yeah, I always call my mom when I’m sick too! Fond memories of her taking good care of me when I was little!

  3. hope the family is all better soon.  isn’t it nice to have the older ones to help out when you can’t?  what a blessing they are!

  4. Glad to hear that the Lord provided someone to not be sick so that he could help out when you and Rich were bed ridden. oh my it sounds awful. i hope that you will be feeling better soon. i’m glad that Rich is doing better so he can oversee things this weekend and make sure that you get some down time. hope that you have some good time just enjoying your family from your perch on the couch…resting and being revitalized. be blessed my dear.

  5. OH,NO! The stomach flu is so miserable. I am glad to hear you are on the other side of it now. I hope and pray your weekend is full of rest and recuperation for all of you! HUGS!

  6. Oh, Shanda!  I’m so sorry to hear that the stomach bug hit your house.  NO FUN, especially when you’re pregnant.  I pray that you are all feeling much better very soon.

  7. Praise God you are on the mend.  We have avoided theat dredded bug, so far at least. Praying you feel like you old self tomorrow. What a blessing to know you have capable children who can handle things  when mom and dad are not able!

  8. You obviously didn’t get the memo that says – parents are not allowed to be sick!!No fun! Our family rarely had a stomach bug…which was a blessing because I could NOT clean that up without hurling! :)My nephew and his family of seven had the same bug this week. Poor dears. You just lay low and get some rest this weekend! (Orders from another who is old enough to be your mother.) Yes…God is good…spring has sprung indeed!Dawn xo

  9. Four of us five had a similar bug a week ago. Not as severe as your bug, though! I feel so bad for recommending a recipe for you and Grace to cook. You certainly left a gracious comment, considering how your stomach was REALLY feeling!Funny about your mom. Last night, I over ate and I think the food tripled in size after reaching my stomach. I was so miserable, I called *MY MOM* too!!!!! And she wasn’t home!!!!!! I’ll be 57 on April 12th, you’d think I’d be old enough to not need my mommy, but I called her (then I called my oldest sister and whined to her!) LOL!!!

  10. Awfull! When 1 is getting it you all indeed are getting it. Stay away from the eggs and remember to always boil them for 6 minutes. For you, dear friend, do try some fresh air nurturing the inside of your body and the baby…be well soon. After all the sicknesssmells…here is a little rosesmell for youLieve groetenGodeliva

  11. Ooh man I had a nasty stomach bug when I was almost 38 weeks pregnant with Ivy and it was indeed horrible! After that I really did not want to go into labor for another couple weeks, but it must have helped it along because after 2 days of stomach and intestinal distress I woke up with my water leaking! All went very well though. But man was it hard to throw up with a big belly! πŸ™‚ Hope you are feeling much better today.

  12. Oh dear.  Throwing up is awful when you are pregnant.:(  And terrible that both adults were down at the same time.  What a help your boys are.  I’m sorry to hear you all were sick.  I think we had the very same thing a week ago.   It’s just traveling everywhere…west coast, east coast, a bloggy friend in Japan said they had it as well.  Crazy.  Praying you mend very quickly.

  13. Oh, you poor dear! I’ll be praying for you. When you said you cried upon hearing your mom’s sympathetic voice, it made me want to call mine. I know just what you’re talking about. Get lots of rest, and pump in the liquids. -don’t worry about the house or the dishes. Houses are suppose to be messy with sick mommies….maybe that’s my problem?? Am I coming down with something? :o) Sending you a hug!
