I brought some of the pinecones home from my walk today.  I could not resist, and I wanted to show Rich and the kids.  The pine pitch stickiness looks just like white paint!  I thought they were stunning, especially after soaking in so much vibrant color in the leaves of the trees.  On the way to church this morning I reminded the children to be looking out their windows, to enjoy the fall colors.  Jacob said, “I think it’s so neat that in the summer all the trees have green leaves, but in the fall, they all have different colors.”  Isn’t our creator God awesome?  It’s almost like a surprise for us….we see the trees in the summer and have to wait, what will they look like in the fall?

When I got home from my walk, I went inside and found my first born boy with my baby boy.  So, I also share this picture with you….because I think the look on Seth’s face is squeezably cute.

I’m currently reading Desiring God, by John Piper.  Our Sunday school class is using the book for our teaching time each week.  I copied down this quote the other day, “May the living God, who is the portion and rest of the saints, make these our carnal minds so spiritual, and our earthly hearts so heavenly, that loving Him, and delighting in Him, may be the work of our lives.”  ~ Richard Baxter

One of the ways I delight in God, is walking and admiring His lovely world!

Have a wonderful night, dear friends!

  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures!! That leaf covered path looks divine. And the leaf suspended…wow. Love that quote…in my journal it goes!! 🙂 I want to read that book…sounds awesome.

  2. OH JOY! Beautiful Fall pictures. I love the quote from Jacob. And yes, Seth is super squeezably cute!! Makes me smile with that little face! Tried to start the journal idea…I loved it. Got as far as some cut out pics! Hugs and sweet dreams tonight dear Shanda. Jenny

  3. This is a lovely post — we don’t see much fall color, so your photos are an extra special treat!  I really love the one of the single leaf falling!

  4. There is a spot at a local park that I take the kids too where there is a gathering of pine trees, we hvae gone there to put down picninc blankets and just look up at the trees and watch Eti climb, or sometimes we built massive nests for pretend gigantic birds, this last time I just wanted to stand there with Coco, it was just this past Saturday and we were picking up handfuls of pineneedles and then pinecones and smelling them….isn’t that the very best smell ever?  The pinecones had that white just like yours!  So all this to say that I love the thought that we were doing the same thing this weekend!Sethy does look cute enough to eat in that picture, I am so glad you clarified what Jake had or I would be left to my imagination.

  5. Love the fall!!  Your pictures capture so much of that beauty.  Love the one of the tree trunk and the fern in the spotlight of the sun!!  Lovely:)

  6. THE LEAVES ARE JUST AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL AND YES THE LOOK ON SETH FACE WAS AS YOU DESCRIBED IT–I SEEN THAT YOU WERE UP VERY EARLY–WAS IT VERY COOL THAT YOU NEEDED A JACKET?             Merle

  7. Wow! Fall sure is pretty in your neck of the woods. Imagine: pine cones fall with blue ribbons neatly tied around them! What a wonderland!!!!I meant to tell you, your new upholstery is the same as what I have on my den furniture. I love it. It’s comfortable, durable, and the color goes with lots of different things. We need to have the cushions re-stuffed. I don’t want to buy a new set of furniture, since I like what I have! I hope you like yours, too!

  8. man, I love all the fall color. Makes me want to come visit you, if only to take pictures 🙂 I want to know how in the world you caught a falling leaf (second picture) exactly in focus and everything. It’s awesome!

  9. Shan, thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures! It was such a gorgeous day yesterday, wasn’t it? Joel and I drove up to NH and I kept saying, “pull over, I gotta take a picture.” The trees were just breathtaking!PS Seth is FOR SURE squeezably cute!!! :o)

  10. Oh what a blessed place to spy at the end of a busy work day. sighs of relief, a check-in with the reality of beauty that you and yours are coming more and more to enjoy. You bless my world. ( and those two different-sized boys faces are so enchanting.)

  11. Awesome pictures! I love the angles you use and the little details you catch. You’ve got a wonderful eye, dear. The trees here suck. Most of them are either still green and full, or already dead and naked. We rarely get any seasonal transitions.
