Because of one small conversation yesterday, I now have a label.
Jacob received a letter yesterday from a friend and found it addressed to the “general”, it contained “top secret” info. and only the generals of the family (assuming, Jacob and Ethan) could read it.
Mom: “Well, I guess I can’t read that!”. . .”oh, wait, I am a general!”
Jacob, still reading his letter, “I thought you were the camp cook!”
Mom: heart overflows with laughter, “Ha, Ha, Ha”
So, I’ve been thinking about this. What Jacob said was true. In the “battle-field of life” I am a camp cook. (You might throw in “bottle washer”, as well.) I could never be comfortable as a General. I would not enjoy that position. In my family, the General would be my husband. You can find me in the kitchen. Cooking. Scrubbing. And I’ll be whistling as I work, because I love what I do, and am happy with my role.
Cookies, anyone? They’re homemade, and warm from the oven.
General-holding superior rank or taking precedence over others similarly titled
Camp Cook- a person who prepares food for eating, to persons encamped

Cute post. My warm cookies are long gone – eaten by the gang at our house this week.
Oh, but don’t you feel deprived? Me either. I love being the camp cook too.
Very cute post. I have never been a general either. I love just tinkering around my kitchen, cleaning and cooking and baking all kinds of good things to eat. Wonderful post, thanks for sharing. :o) God bless
Kelly
You are a wonderful camp cook, but I think you are so much more! You are the rubber of backs, the maker of appointments, the entertainment committee, the laundry lady, the story teller, the encourager, the recorder and planner of daily events, the bringer of music, the taxi service, the home decorator, the hearer of dreams, the mediator …….. oh, so much more! You are a mommy!
Cute. π
With my husband working out of town all the time, I gotta be both…and yeah, I’d rather just take the camp cook position and leave the other to him! π
thats funny!
Very cute! I love being the camp cook, too, and I’m glad the general duties are otherwise taken care of.
At least Jacob didn’t think you were “the drill sergeant” which might have not sounded so delightful to you!!!!
from one camp cook to another:have a blessed day!I love being a camp cook!!! Thank God He didn’t make me to handle the responsibilities of the General!:) and thank God my husband is not the camp cook (he never cooked a thing until the recent years – that includes eggs, outmeal, and bowls of apple sauce of the refrig:) hehe. I like how God gave us our places~ at the same time, grateful when we can help each other out if need be — sometimes, when the General is gone away, he leaves me in charge. And then I really appreciate the general all the more when he returns!lys
Good Morning Shanda…..Thats so cute…camp cook. The things children will say….Thats the way things are in my house too. Hubby = General. Me = camp cook. Wouldn’t have it any other way…Have a Blessed Day.
LOL I love this. Yes, I am often referred to Chief Cook and Bottle Washer here at home, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love that title. I love the book you gave me to read (do you know that it is the one Mary recommended I get, so we could go through it together?? God was in that!) because it says I am my husband’s right hand man (lady), I’m like the Vice President, he’s the President. I’m so comfortable in that role, and love my job. π And yes, I’ll take some cookies, ma’am, pass them this way! Love you, Shanda!!
@tessitura – I love you too, Trish, and have renewed awe of God our Father because of that book ~ yes, He was in that for sure! Did you know, TWO different women on xanga mailed ME that book? I guess that goes to show you we both needed to read it. I’m glad you are enjoying it. What did Mary say when she found out?
@purpleamethyst76 – That is so neat…it almost gives me goosebumps to think of how orchestrated it was. Mary was describing a book she wanted me to order, and she mentioned that it was a lady who’d been married for a long time, and that she gets a little “brutally honest” and doesn’t sugar-coat things, and I had read two chapters at that point, and it was sounding a little familiar. I said “Hmm, did she marry a Pastor…HER Pastor?” and she laughed and said “Yes, and they got married rather quickly..” and I said “YES! Within like a week! Shanda let me borrow that book!” and she thought that was awesome, as did I. I’m doing a few more things with her first, and then we’ll be discussing the book. Thanks for being such a huge blessing to me, and for letting me borrow such a wonderful book, I’m already learning so much from it. π
@tessitura – That is SO awesome!!!! See what God does for us?? I’m sure He’s up there smiling. . . . . .
“You are the cook! I am the General!”
So glad we talked yesterday!
Oh, I too love being a “camp cook,” although my “army” to feed is not very big yet!
…and I love that picture of you washing dishes!
Ok, I normally do not read others comments but I did this time. Can you pass on what book you and your friend read? :o)
@mom3kids3cats – Of course! It is “Created to be his Help Meet” by Debi Pearl.
